Summer Update

With an uncharacteristically hot and dry August drawn to a close, we’re proud to report that our sites have remained noticeably greener and more biodiverse than other local areas.

How have we achieved this?

  • Dedicated approach - rather than simply cutting to a spec, which has caused many sites to be reduced to a yellow ‘thatch’ for the past month, we look ahead to the forthcoming weather and cut accordingly. On a site-by-site basis we have ensured that, rather than cutting low and watching the resulting damage compounded by the heat, we have adjusted our approach with turfcare and operability at the forefront of our approach.

  • Knowing our Sites - Every site we maintain has remained fit for use over the summer holidays, providing crucial amenity areas in a period of healthy turf scarcity.

  • Focus on biodiversity over profit - Our mowing schedules have been adjusted to retain greenery and an optimum turf height. Not only has this left our sites as some of very few ‘green’ areas in a period lacking biodiversity, but it has reduced client expenditure.

Outside of Turf?

  • Planting and plant care has been predictably challenging, although we’ve benefitted from sites and private gardens with largely established planting schemed which have remained resilient to the inclement weather.

  • In a tough year for wildflower, the meadows we are involved with have had a shorter flowering season, resulting in earlier cuts as we look towards optimum flowering diversity next year.

  • Hard Landscaping - Our landscaping projects in and around Bath continue, despite some very hard days, as we draw toward the end of our paving season.
